When i'm reinstalling my printer drivers, it says some kind of "access denial" about "AddPrinterDriver(...)". my printer is lexmark optra e312l and i'm using windows xp

i've tried the following method:
1. Tried to install the printer driver by "add new hardware",
2. tried to update the printer driver in device manager, and
3. install the printer in "Add printer", from windows xp cd
4. my computer->properties->hardware->device program signature->first and second radio button

As far as I understood you may have 1 of 3 problems.
1. You haven't logged as Admin;
2. Your Printer Spooler is turn off (Services)
3. and.. It seems XP driver for lexmark have their own wizzard (something like, setup.exe).
More correctly to install their driver via Lexmark wizzard.
Let me know how it goes...
But I'm not sure.

1.i'm logged in as admin, and i can install other drivers
2.I've tried both with Printer Spooler on and off.
3. I encounter the same problem with the wizard.

and i can use my printer when my machine boots with Linux

haveugot,
AddPrinterDriver( ) (AddPrinterDriverA( ), I'm not sure about AddPrinterDriverW( )) must be imported by Wizard from "winspool.drv".
Can you find this file at WINXP\System\ directory?

haveugot,
This function installing your Printer Driver and in some cases that means you have invalid .inf file. I'm mistaken probably.

haveugot,
>do u mean that i have an invalid .inf file?
Hmm... Probably

By the way, your XP is home edition or professional?

May be.. you may check your Printer Server Properties. Try to delete (remove) if you've server in Printer Servers like shown at Miraplacid Publisher FAQ #5:
http://www.miraplacid.com/shareware/mp40/faq.shtml#q5
Perhaps, you have unsuccesfully installed printer server.

next idea about USB.. I'm not sure that you have USB driver, but this step of installation may fail cause you didn't install special driver for Mainboard. This is my suppositions.
I don't know how XP supporting USB devices.
And last idea.. watch BIOS may be USB is turn off at BIOS. May be, Linux may work this out this flag, but XP check this flag and doesnot installing USB device support.

1. Log in as admin
2. Run "gpedit.msc" from command line.
3. look at "Computer Configuration\Administrative
Templates\Printers\Disallow installation of printers using kernel-mode
drivers"
Try to Enable this or Disable..

haveugot, This problem may concerning corrupted PNF data.
Can you do following steps:
1. explore the "WINXP\inf" directory (pay attention: hidden directory)
2. move printupg.pnf (not printupg.INF ) somewhere else (your temp dir)
3. Run your wizzard again. If that didn't fix the problem goto next step(4).
4. do the same for ntprint.pnf (not .INF)
5. if does not fix it, move infcache.1
6. if not fix it, move oemxxxx.pnf files

Pay attention! This is very serious operation.
I can't reccomend... cause it risky.

Volkov, I'm using Windows XP Professional, and the printer is connected using printer port LPT1.
At the beginning, it has no printer drivers in the configuration as i deleted all of them before. Then i install both from windows cd and the drivers from lexmark. It fails and says "... not install. access denial"(Sorry i cant tell u the exact message because i'm using chinese windows)
I tried to install some "software printer" and face the same problem. So, the problem probably not causes by the lexmark printer drivers.

Overdream, I've tried to move out the "printupg.pnf", "ntprint.pnf" and "infcache.1" files and the problem still exist. I've not tried the "oemxxxx.pnf" files
The same wrong message still appears.

I had send a mail about to the damned lexmark support. They only auto-generate a mail said that the e-mail's topic is unknown.

I had the same problem. Did you touch the services within msconfig? I had the same problem, and it solved when i enabled every service.
Good luck!

I changed my LPT1 Port to Lexmark and I didn't know I shouldn't do that. Well now when you click on the printer in the window for printers, it freezes up. It will not let me into printer information at all. How can I fix it?

I have a problem installing a couple of Lexmark 3 in one's (XP home) - they wont allocate a printer port.
All the drivers go on as they should until right at the end it throws an error telling me it cant find a port for the printer even tho it does find the scanner and can use it.
