What exactly is the function of the hard drive of the LJ 8550n? I understand that it would store qued jobs, but was wondering if one can load few hundred megs of fonts in there so that they do not have to be downloaded every time? If this is possible, how do you do it and how do you set up the computer (Mac, both OS 9 and OS 10) so that it does not send the fonts every time? Thanks in advance.

yes you can download the fonts to the disk.

If you have TT fonts, then the best method would be to use the webjetadmin.

If you have PS-1 fonts, then adobe has had an application, called PSDOWN.EXE which could dowload the fonts.

Another option was Download manager on the 8550 driver CD

Sorry, all of this above is good for windows, but I am sure that something similar exists on MAC. Once you download the fonts to the printer you don't need to do anything, as the MAC driver reads the printer resources and knows that the fonts are there

good luck
